OPC leader condemned recent kidnapping of school children in Oyo State

The leader of the Oodua Peoples Congress reformed, Ambassador Dare Adesope, has condemned the recent kidnapping of school children in Oyo State, describing the incident as barbaric, painful and a serious threat to public safety.

The OPC leader, while reacting to the abduction, said the increasing cases of insecurity in parts of the country demand urgent and decisive action from government at all levels.

He expressed sympathy with the families of the affected children and called on security agencies to intensify efforts towards the immediate rescue of the victims and arrest of those behind the crime.

According to him, schools should remain safe places for learning and not centres of fear and panic.

Adesope also advised Governor Seyi Makinde to intensify support for the establishment of state police noting that local security structures would help governors tackle insecurity more effectively.

He said state police would improve intelligence gathering, community policing and rapid response to criminal activities, especially in rural communities where kidnappers often operate.

The OPC leader added that governors and traditional rulers understand the security challenges within their communities better and should be empowered to protect lives and property.

He further urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information capable of preventing criminal activities.

The group prayed for the safe return of the abducted children and called on Nigerians to unite against insecurity across the country.

"There is no doubt that insurgents have occupied many forests and bush areas in our region, making it easier for them to carry out their coordinated criminal activities. These hideouts allow them to retreat, regroup, strengthen their forces, and launch further attacks. In view of this, the governments at all levels need the support of all willing and capable volunteer groups like all OPC, Agbekoya and local hunters. This is not a matter that calls for prolonged deliberation, especially when the lives and safety of citizens are at stake. Local security groups are ready only if properly equiped. Adesope said.
