A call to stop 'Gangs of Lagos' film, for misrepresenting Eyo masquerade

By Ayinke Adebayo

The National film and video censors Board and cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria, should sanction the producer of the movie called "Gangs of Lagos"

The Eyo Festival, otherwise known as the Adimu Orisha, is a Yoruba festival unique to Lagos State, Nigeria. In modern times, it is presented by the people of Lagos as a tourist event and due to its history, is traditionally performed on Lagos Island.

As an Omoluabi with utmost interest towards the promotion and orientation of the Omoluabi ethos in Yoruba Land and globally,
I condemn the aspect of "Eyo" Masquerade carrying guns in a movie,

This is an insult to the tradition a downgrade to the ethos of "Eko and Yoruba at large if care is not taken.

As the Public Relation Officer of Yoruba Council of Youth Worldwide Lagos Chapter under the Umbrella of Igbimo Apapo Yoruba L'agbaye,

We are saying this movie should stop being played at the cinema until the necessary corrections and amendment is been made concerning the movie.

Omo Yoruba ni mi Omo k'aro ojire

E-Signed:

Comrade Emmanuel Adebayo Efunkomaya, Public Relation Officer and General Secretary,
Yoruba Council of Youth Worldwide Lagos Chapter under the umbrella of Igbimo Apapo Yoruba L'agbaye.
