Why Prince Harry's Paternity Was Questioned By The Royal Family; Is Charles Really His Dad?

Due to Princess Diana's self-confessed affair, rumors began that Prince Harry was not Charles' son.

Prince Harry, also known as Henry Charles Albert David, is the fifth in line to the British royal throne, and the youngest son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana. However, due to the fact that people enjoy a good conspiracy theory, some have questioned Harry's paternity over the years, claiming that his real father is James Hewitt, Princess Diana's horse riding instructor.

Although Prince Harry and his wife have already cut ties with the royal family to protect their privacy, the couple has remained at the center of several headlines. And now an interview with Hewitt has resurfaced, documenting when he spoke out to put some long-standing rumors to rest regarding the Duke of Sussex. So, is Prince Charles really the biological father of Harry?

How Did The Rumors About Prince Harry’s Paternity Start?

Ever since the affair of Princess Diana and James Hewitt was made public, people have suggested that Hewitt could be the biological father of Prince Harry.

Conspiracy theorists often point out that both Harry and Hewitt have red hair, and also that they look basically the same. But how did the rumor really start?

In 1986, just two years before Harry was born, Princess Diana allegedly began an affair with James Hewitt the Horse Whisperer. The couple’s relationship reportedly lasted for five years.

The princess herself admitted that she and the instructor had an affair during a BBC Panorama program in 1995.

On the other hand, Hewitt said in an interview, "It was never her intention to fall in love with me, and it was certainly not my intention to fall in love with Diana, but it happened because of the circumstances throwing us together.”

He further explained, “It’s very difficult to say how physical she wanted our relationship to become. And I’m not going to suggest one way or the other whose fault it was, it developed, and it was mutual.”

For what it's worth, Hewitt and Diana appeared to be deeply in love, and the man claims that before their relationship ended after word of the affair made it into the media, they fantasized about spending the rest of their lives together.

Hewitt divulged, “Although neither of us said anything, I think both of us realized the situation was impossible. It was more and more obvious to me that she wanted to finish the relationship… it just fizzled out.”

After the affair became known to the public, rumors about Hewitt being the real father of Prince Harry kicked off.

Was James Hewitt The Real Father Of Prince Harry?
Though Harry and Hewitt both shared the same red hair and looked alike, the theory was debunked by Hewitt himself.

In a 2002 interview with Sunday Mirror, he revealed: “There really is no possibility whatsoever that I am Harry’s father. I can absolutely assure you that I am not. I can understand the interest but Harry was already walking by the time my relationship with Diana began.”

He added, “Admittedly the red hair is similar to mine and people say we look alike. I have never encouraged these comparisons and although I was with Diana for a long time I must state once and for all that I’m not Harry’s father. When I met Diana, he was already a toddler.”

The instructor then commented on Harry’s 18th birthday photo, saying: “Looking at the pictures I have to say he’s much more handsome chap than I ever was.”

He added, “I have been aware for a while that the issue of Harry’s paternity has been a major talking point.”

So certainly, Prince Harry is not Hewitt’s son – despite the striking physical resemblance.

Meanwhile, the Commander in Charge of Royal Protection in 1995, Dai Davies, also put the wild rumors to rest.

He insisted that the allegation is false, saying: “James is definitely not Harry’s father! Diana and Hewitt had not even met when Harry was conceived. Charles is his father.”

He also divulged that Prince Harry, whose relationship with his royal father Prince Charles has started to improve, was devastated by the rumors about his paternity.

He said, “Harry was furious when it was suggested he take a DNA test. His reaction was, ‘I know who my father is. I am my father’s son.’”

Hopefully, these responses to the allegations will finally put them to bed once and for all.
