Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been conferred with the Leadership and Service Award by Babcock University in recognition of his outstanding performance, exemplary leadership and commitment to public service.
The honour was presented during the university's 24th Undergraduate Convocation Ceremony held at its Ilishan-Remo campus in Ogun State on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
Speaking as the convocation lecturer, Governor Sanwo-Olu delivered a lecture titled, "Breaking New Ground: Faith, Grit and the Work of New Beginnings," where he urged graduating students to embrace resilience, integrity and innovation as they prepare to navigate the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly changing world.
The governor encouraged the graduates to remain steadfast in pursuing excellence, stressing that faith, determination and hard work are essential ingredients for success and meaningful contributions to society.
Sanwo-Olu enjoined young Nigerians to develop innovative solutions to societal problems and engage government through evidence-based ideas capable of driving sustainable development.
Highlighting Lagos’ progress over the past seven years, Sanwo-Olu pointed to investments in transportation, education, healthcare, housing and technology, stressing that meaningful development requires patience, discipline and consistency.
The convocation also celebrated academic excellence as Amosu Oluwapelumi emerged the overall best graduating student, receiving a cash prize of N10 million.
Speaking after receiving the award, Oluwapelumi attributed her success to consistency, discipline, and hard work.
She urged fellow graduates and students still in school not to lose sight of their goals, emphasising that success is not achieved overnight but through dedication and perseverance.
Also speaking, one of the graduates, Simisola Abore, expressed gratitude to God for seeing the Class of 2026 through the challenges of university life.
Abore urged her colleagues to remain worthy ambassadors of Babcock University and give back to the institution and society as responsible alumni.
